MEDFORD, Ore.-The Olsrud family, owners of Sherm's Thunderbird and Food 4 Less, donated 23,000 pounds of food to the Community Action Center (ACCESS) of Jackson county Friday morning.
The family has been making this donation every year for 13 years now, since 2000.
ACCESS distributes emergency food boxes to families in the Jackson County to help fight hunger and their supply tends to go down after the holidays.
"Then the attention goes away from that right after New Year's and so our supplies start to get a little bit depleted at the end of Jan., beginning of Feb. You can see a few empty shelves around the warehouse now, so this is a great infusion for us right now, at a moment when we can really use, keep the food supply steadily going to food pantries," said ACCESS Executive Director, Jackie Schad.
Sherm Olsrud said, saw the need to help end hunger in his community and hopes others join him in doing so. "This is our community. We live here and if we don't take care of our own things, who are we gonna ask to? Are we gonna ask the federal government to stay? They do their share, but I think private individuals should step up too," said Olsrud.
Today's donation will help feed approximately 1,000 families.
