Oregon's unemployment rate for October is 8.6 percent. It dropped by 0.1 percent since September, when the rate was 8.7, according to a press release from the Oregon Employment Department.
The rate has dropped 0.7 percent since October 2011, when the state's unemployment rate was 9.3 percent.
Job gains in the state are also down. The employment department used data from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine nonfarm payroll employment fell by 2,400 jobs in the state.
In a year's time -- from October 2011 to October 2012 -- the state has seen a 0.9 percent job gain. State employment officials say the private sector added 17,500 jobs but the government shed 2,200 jobs.
