At 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, Medford Police attempted to stop Brandon Lee Evans, 28, at Barnett Road and Ellendale Avenue for a traffic violation.
Evans was on a moped, according to a press release from Medford Police. The man attempted to elude the officer and drove into an apartment complex in the 2300 block of East Barnett Road.
He then fled on foot, jumping over fences as he ran away from police.
Police say the man threw his backpack at the police officer. The officer was struck, but wasn't hurt.
Evans got away and police established a perimeter.
By 8:15 a.m., police found Evans hiding behind a trash can in the 2200 block of East Barnett Road. Police also discovered that the vehicle identification number on the moped had been obliterated.
He was arrested on the suspicion of attempting to elude on foot, attempting to elude in a vehicle, harassment, reckless driving and trafficking a vehicle with an altered VIN.
Police say the suspect had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. Those warrants were for possession of methamphetamine, felon in possession of a weapon and a concealed weapon.
