Medford, Ore.-- As the Lakeview fires are
getting closer to Northern California homes, residents are being told to start
evacuating.
The best way to make sure everyone gets out safely is to plan
ahead. Too many people wait until its too late, leaving irreplaceable
memorabilia behind.
Richard Panick, the IRS Media Relations Specialist,
told us that in instances of a forced evacuation, if there were important
documents left behind, such as tax returns, the IRS is there to be a resource to
help you get those back again.
To avoid this problem, however, planning
ahead by storing your important documents and memorabilia in a firesafe box or
off the premises of your house, is always a good plan. Also having your
documents sent elsewhere electronically by email or a thumb drive will be better in the long run.
