MEDFORD, Ore. – It’s been
nearly a year since a Central Point woman was found dead in her home.
Jessica Bethany's loved
ones say it's hard to explain how the last year has been. Her friend and
co-worker, Lance Goodrich, says it's been rough.
“She was just an awesome
person,” Goodrich said. “We're just going to have a big birthday party just
like we did for her last year”
Bethany was found dead in
her apartment a year ago Tuesday. Her ex-boyfriend Jeffery Wheeler is accused of
stabbing her multiple times, before trying to set the house on fire.
Wheeler is behind bars
facing multiple charges including murder, arson and endangering another
person's life. Investigators believe Bethany and Wheeler's young daughter was
in the home when Bethany was killed.
Now though, her friends
and co-workers are giving back to her children and celebrating her life.
Goodrich says they plan on
having a birthday party for Bethany at Howiee’s on Front in Medford on Sept. 23rd.
He says she would have turned 34 years this month.
Al the money made at Bethany's
party will go into a memorial fund for her kids.
“Her children were
paramount in her life,” Goodrich said. “So we should kind of help her out by taking
care of them a little bit.”
Last year Howiee's also
had a birthday party for Bethany. Hundreds of people showed up to remember the
young mother.
“Last year was just
amazing -- truly an awe-inspiring,” Goodrich said. “Hopefully we can do that
again for her.”
The memorial fund is set up at U.S. Bank
under the Jessica Bethany Memorial Fund. You can donate at any of the bank
locations.
