The assault happened around 8:54 p.m. on Northwest C Street near Northwest Dimmick Street, according to a press release from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.
A witness reported the assault and told police the victim was attacked by a group of men that had Maglites.
Police officers were on scene within minutes, but the suspects had already fled.
One suspect was seen striking the victim with a Maglite and several others kicked the victim.
Police say the victim had multiple lacerations to the head. He was taken to Asante Three Rivers Community Hospital for treatment.
Witnesses say about six or seven men were wearing cloth Halloween monster masks and dark clothing.
One suspect was not. He is described as a white male in his late teens to early 20s. He has short dark hair and was last seen wearing dark clothing.
Witnesses say the suspect left the area on foot, skateboards and bicycles.
