NEAR BUTTE FALLS, Ore. -- The Rancheria Fire burning east of Butte Falls was started by a person, investigators say.
The Oregon Department of Forestry says the fire began Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. It spread to 32 acres, but crews were able to establish a fire line around it by the evening.
Brian Ballou with ODF says crews will spend most of the day Monday mopping up the fire. Although the weather is cooling down, he says fire danger levels are still at extreme.
"We're going on more than 100 days over most of southwest Oregon without having any rainfall," Ballou said. "It doesn't really take much to spark a fire."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
