Around 2:30 p.m., a deputy was at the Kirtland Road and Tolo Road intersection when he saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
During the chase, the deputy noticed the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta was increasing its speed and crossing the double yellow line.
The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled toward Gold Hill on Blackwell Road. Additional officers were called in to assist.
In the 12000 block of Blackwell Road, a deputy watched the suspect crash the Jetta in a ditch.
Deputies say the driver got out of the car and ran away through a nearby field.
A K-9 and air support were dispatched to the scene to help search for the man. They were unable to find him.
Officials have identified the suspect at Toby Alexander Martinez, 21, of Medford. They say the man is a documented Norteno gang member. He is considered dangerous.
A felony warrant has been issued for his arrest. Police say he was involved in another high speed pursuit on Sept. 3 in Central Point.
If you have information, call the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Tip line, (541) 774-8333.
