EAGLE POINT, Ore.-Jackson County Fire District Three welcomes two new pumper tenders.
The new trucks are safer for both firefighters and residents and faster to get to wild fires.
Their smaller size makes them more maneuverable, especially in narrow spaces.
The trucks are designed from the ground up as pumper tenders whereas the old tenders were repurposed, making them unfamiliar to and difficult for firefighters to operate.
Captain Will Clelland explains the expense for the technologically modern trucks was planned for ahead of time. "The district's command team is really good at ensuring that they're looking down the road making sure that when we expect to need to replace vehicles that we have the funds to do that."
Funding comes from the capital fund which is generated from the district's general fund.
Firefighter Brian Murdock explains that features such as a water level indicator, rear viewing camera and perimeter lights make for more efficient and safer fire service.
Murdock adds, "they have breathing apparatuses, on them, they carry a rated fire pump [...] fire hoses, extension ladders, deck on top and so they could be used for structural as well as wildland [fires]."
The old water tenders will be taken out of service.
