A trooper attempted to pull over Brett Andrew Carpenter around 11:03 p.m. Sunday near milepost 358 on Highway 101. The man was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup, according to an OSP press release.
Police wanted to stop Carpenter because they say he was going 65 mph in a 35 mph speed zone, the press release said.
Carpenter failed to yield, police say, and began accelerating, hitting speeds up to 80 mph south of Brookings.
The man then turned east onto Winchuck River Road. Police say he lost control of the pickup when he turned onto a gravel U.S. Forest Service road about 10 miles east of Highway 101.
He rolled over into an embankment.
He was not hurt and was arrested at 11:16 p.m. Police arrested Carpenter on the suspicion of felony attempt to elude in a vehicle and reckless driving. Police also cited him for driving while suspended.
