The sheriff's office arrested Ed Henline Sr., 57, early Thursday in Zaccaglini's death and disappearance. The girl was 15 years old when she disappeared in 1997.
"This case, although still ongoing, serves as a small measure of closure to the family and friends of Ms. Hannah Zaccaglini," Sheriff Jon Lopey said in a press release. "Family members and friends have had to live with the grief, uncertainty and irrevocable loss associated with her disappearance for over 15 years."
Police say she went missing on June 5 shortly after being seen walking near the Henline home with Henline.
Detectives from the sheriff's office major crimes units have pursued new and previous leads over the last several months, according to a press release from the Siskiyou County Sheriff's office.
Officials say some of the new leads came from interviews with new witnesses. However, police believe there are still people who have information -- or knowledge -- about Zaccaglini's disappearance and death. They are urged to call the sheriff's office at (530) 842-8764 and talk to Detective Jeff Moser.
"This arrest resulted from good old-fashioned police work, the dauntless efforts of our investigators, the collective efforts of many law enforcement agencies and the support of witnesses willing to provide information about the case," Lopey said.
