MEDFORD, Ore.-Monica Parente and her 20-month-old son--left homeless this weekend as a result of toxic black mold in their new rental.
They were ready to move in last Saturday, but Parente says the home on Perrydale Avenue was filled with toxic black mold.
She says Valley Properties promised to clean it, when she first viewed the home, but it never did.
Parente hired an inspector who confirmed the mold is highly toxic and the rental is not safe for her, her baby or anyone to live in.
Parente says the management company gave her a couple options--take her money and look elsewhere, or live in the rental, but sign a waiver first while waiting an unknown amount of time for Valley Properties to fix the problem.
Parente claims to not have the time or money to deal with the problems.
She is not willing to put the health of her baby and her own health at risk.
Parente insists others in the community stand up for themselves in these situations. "This is not a joke and the rest of this community should know that they should never have to live in those kinds of circumstances and management should never ever endanger someone's life by putting them in that scenario and then knowingly still proposing that I live there knowing how dangerous it is."
Parente is now living with friends.
News Ten tried to contact Valley Properties, but we have not heard back.
