YREKA, Calif. -- California Highway Patrol has re-opened Interstate 5 southbound at the Colliers Rest Stop near the crossing over the Klamath River.
The northbound side is still closed.
Both
directions of the highway in California were closed due to multiple
accidents between the Yreka side of Anderson Grade and Hornbrook, Calif.
CalFire reports approximately 64 cars were involved in
the pileup. There's no word on the extent of injuries among the drivers
and passengers.
CalFire says highway conditions have deteriorated significantly and are extremely dangerous.
There is a detour for northbound I-5 traffic. Drivers will need to leave the interstate at exit 776 and continue north on California Highway 263, then make a right onto Highway 96. Follow that road until you meet up with I-5 just north of the Klamath River.
As of right now, there is no word on when I-5 northbound will re-open, News 10 will continue to follow this story as it develops.
