MEDFORD, Ore. -- Crab season is finally here and stores like Sherm's Thunderbird are struggling to keep it on the shelves.
"This shipment was probably about 50 pounds of crab and that is usually a weekly thing," said Nathan Petersen, a meat cutter at Sherm's Thunderbird.
For businesses like Bounder's Crab in Brookings, its customers are finally getting what they have been anxiously waiting for- fresh crab.
"At Bounders we've had a lot of interest with people wanting crab and so far it's been going good," said Bill Wood, the owner of Bounder's Crab.
Wood also says the crabs they're pulling in aren't as big as last year, which might slow their business down in the long run.
With the season opening up on Dec. 31, places like Sherm's Thunderbird and Bounder's crab sold out of their first hauls within days.
"It has been pretty good, probably 2,000 to 3,000 pounds would be a pretty good estimate," said Wood.
Here in the valley, stores that sell crab are doing its best to keep crab on the shelves, but say it's a good problem to have.
