Ashland Police learned of the hazing and possible sexual assault complaint in July.
The incident reportedly happened between June 21 and June 24 while the Ashland High School football team was at camp at Linfield College in McMinnville, according to a press release from the Ashland Police.
Ashland detectives worked with the McMinnville Police; however, Ashland Police and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office assumed primary jurisdiction because everyone involved lives in Jackson County.
Detectives did 48 forensic interviews with members of the football.
Through the investigation, police learned that five members of the team were coerced in a way they had a legal right to abstain from -- coercion, according to a press release.
Police say three members of the football team were subjected to forcible compulsion -- attempted unlawful penetration.
The investigation identified four juvenile suspects:
- Ashland High School student no. 1 is charged with five counts of coercion, one count of conspiracy to commit unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree (attempted)
- Ashland High School student no. 2 is charged with five counts of coercion and one count of conspiracy to commit unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree
- Ashland High School student no. 3 is charged with five counts of coercion
- One non-Ashland High School juvenile is charged with five counts of coercion and four counts of unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree (attempted).
