The incident happened around 5:43 p.m. at Vivis Fashions, 1803 W. Main Street.
A man walked into the store and was acting suspicious, according to a press release from the Medford Police Department.
He approached the clerk and asked her if there was anyone else there. He then allegedly said he needed money and pulled out a set of bolt cutters from his waistband. He placed the cutters on the counter.
Police say the clerk told the suspect she had video cameras throughout the store.
That is when the suspect said he was "just kidding." He then left the store and was last seen crossing West Main Street.
Police believe the man was going to rob the business.
They say he is a white male in his 20s with a receding hairline with light brown hair. He may have a shaved head. He has a disfigured nose and is missing teeth.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket, grey sweatpants and a light-colored sweatshirt.
