CAVE JUNCTION, Ore -- A couple and their dogs lost while snowshoeing were rescued Saturday in Josephine County. Friends of the couple called Search and rescue just after 11:00 p.m. reporting two were missing up on Page Mountain.
Six members of the snow team and a Forest Service employee went out to look for the couple. Teams used a snow-cat and tracked atv's to navigate the paths.
Joesphine county deputies say they found the couple just after 2:00 a.m. The two and their basset hounds were cold and damp, but declined medical assistance.
Teams took the snow-shoers and their pets on the snow-cat back to the parking lot where friends picked them up.
The couple had only intended be out for a couple of hours and only had water and a couple of lighters with them. Deputies say While snow shoeing, they missed a marker and went down an unmarked Forest Service road. They traveled approximately 6 miles on Forest Service roads in both Oregon and California before the snow team found them.
Deputy Corey Krauss with search and rescue says the two would not have survived another night out in the cold.
