The incident happened around 10 a.m. Police say a 18-year-old man, a 17-year-old girl and a third girl whose age wasn't made available were on the path near the U.S. Cellular Community Park.
They heard a noise in the bushes and went to check it out. That is when a homeless man jumped out and yelled at them. He told the three to go away and leave him alone.
The man challenged the teens to a fight, but they declined and started to leave.
Police say the man followed them. Around Interstate 5 exit 27, the homeless man produced a handgun. He shot at the teens four to five times.
They ran to the Black Bear Diner and called for help.
No one was seriously hurt. Police say the 18-year-old was hit in the hip, but the ammunition did not puncture the skin and left only a bruise. The 17-year-old girl was hit in the shoulder, but again the ammunition did not break the skin and left the victim with a bruise.
Police believe the weapon was a black-powder gun.
Police say the suspect is a white male that is about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He is in his late 40s early 50s. He has brownish gray shaggy hair, a beard and glasses. He was seen wearing a brown flannel-type jacket.
