The incident happened on March 3. A man caught his dog urinating in the house in the 1900 block of Pepper Street. He handed the dog to his roommate and asked the man to take the dog outside, according to a press release from the Medford Police Department.
After taking the dog, the roommate went to the rear sliding door and allegedly threw the dog into the backyard.
Police say the dog was thrown about 15 feet into the air. When it landed, it was hurt.
The dog's owner and other occupants of the home confronted the roommate. Police say the roommate, identified as 29-year-old Christopher Lee Lewis, left the home.
The Chihuahua was taken to All Creatures Animal Hospital and was treated for two broken front legs, brain trauma, internal bleeding and possible neck and jaw injuries.
Police found Lewis on Jackson Street and arrested on the suspicion of aggravated animal abuse.
