MEDFORD, Ore -- The Coquille Tribe of Oregon wants to build a new gaming facility in Medford.
It would be built where the old Kim's restaurant, Bear Creek Golf Course, and Roxy Ann Lanes currently sit.
However Tim Raphael with Governor Kitzhaber's office says this is different than other casinos in the state, "we have not had an application requesting that land be taken into trust for class 2 gaming purposes"
According to Raphael they normally have tribes submit requests to build full service casinos.
The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs just granted the state more time to decide on this proposal.
If it's approved, Ray Doering with the Coquille Tribe says you shouldn't expect to play poker. blackjack or roulette, " class 2 gaming is basically bingo."
Doering says this is not your typical bingo with paper and daubers, "it's dressed up in different styles but thats the basic operation which is quite different from class 3 machines that you would see in most of the casinos and in Las Vegas style casinos here in Oregon."
The Governor now has 60 days to make a decision on the casino project.
