Leta Jean Schroeder, 35, entered the plea Thursday in Jackson County Judge Benjamin Bloom's courtroom, according to a press release from the Jackson County District Attorney's office. She also pleaded guilty to four counts of failure to preform the duties of a driver in regards to an injured person.
The woman was arrested July 23, 2012, 14 hours after a fatal accident at the intersection of highways 62 and 99.
Officials say Schroeder ran a red light at the intersection around 3:44 a.m. When she did this, she collided with a van carrying seven men on their way to work. Three of the men were ejected from the van; one was killed and two others were hurt.
Schroeder fled from the scene.
Around 5:30 p.m., police arrested Schroeder, who said she was hurt. Police took her to an area hospital, where medical staff determined she wasn't hurt.
A urinalysis was done. That test showed the presences of amphetamines, cannabinoids, opiates and oxycodone. However, because the length of time that had passed, police couldn't determine if those substances impaired Schroeder's ability to drive at the time of the crash.
However, the police investigation showed that Schroeder was the driver and her actions caused the crash.
Schroeder will spend 46 months in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections. After her release, the state will supervise her for three years. She will be required to pay restitution.
