Lofstedt Earns Second Ad Rutschman Award at Oregon Sports Awards
BEAVERTON -- Southern Oregon University standout wrestler Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) took home one of the state's biggest honors at Sunday's Oregon Sports Awards held at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton.
Lofstedt won the Ad Rutschman Award for Small College Athlete of the Year. It is the second time in three years that Lofstedt has won the honor, and he became just the second person to win the award multiple times. Linfield softball player Staci Doucette won the female honor.
The Oregon Sports Awards, hosted by ESPN's Neil Everett, honors athletes, coaches and teams from throughout Oregon for their achievements during the 2012 calendar year.
Lofstedt was honored for winning the NAIA National Championship at 125 pounds last year. As a junior, Lofstedt went 39-2 on the season and set a program record with 26 pins.
His championship helped the Raiders finish second in the NAIA Championship team race.
This year, Lofstedt wrapped the regular season with a 28-1 record and is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA rankings as the Raiders head into this weekend's NAIA Regional Qualifying Tournament in Great Falls, Mont.
Lofstedt also won the Rutchsman Award in 2010.
