SOU Women Will Face Knights and Cavaliers in Portland

ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon women's basketball team heads to Portland this weekend for a pair of Cascade Collegiate Conference games against Warner Pacific and Concordia.
Southern Oregon, 12-10 overall and 3-8 in conference play, will face the Knights on Friday and the Cavaliers on Saturday, with game time set for 5:30 p.m. both days.
Warner Pacific ranks fourth in the CCC standings with a 7-3 record, 13-8 overall. The Knights are fourth in the conference in scoring offense (69.6 points per game) and fifth in scoring defense (61.3), and their +8.3 scoring margin ranks third. They lead the conference and rank among the NAIA top 10 in field goal percentage (.447) and free throw percentage (.738). Warner Pacific's 18.33 assists per game ranks second in the conference and sixth in the nation, and the Knights' 1.05 assist/turnover ratio leads the CCC.
Chelsey Christensen leads the team and ranks fifth in the CCC in scoring (14.6), with Cameryn Calhoun ranking ninth (13.0) and Kelsey Mattsen 11th (12.4), and all three players rank among the CCC top nine in shooting percentage. Nichole Jackson (5.75 assists per game) and Calhoun (4.14) rank second and fourth in assists, and Jackson's 2.19 assist/turnover ratio leads the league. The Knights have won five of their last six games, including a 73-62 road win over Concordia over the weekend.
“They've got good inside presence as well as some really good shooters,” SOU head coach Lynn Kennedy said of the Knights. “Cameryn Calhoun is definitely their court leader and definitely sees the floor, Mattsen's a really good shooter from the outside and (Layne) Tucker's been playing extremely well of late.”
Friday's game will be the 40th meeting between SOU and Warner Pacific since 1980. The Raiders have won 26 of the 39 meetings to this point, including eight of the past 12. After the teams split last season, the Knights took the first meeting against SOU this year, 73-67 in Ashland last month.
Concordia ranks seventh in the CCC with a 3-7 record, 7-14 overall. The Cavaliers sit eighth in scoring offense (64.1 points per game) and ninth in scoring defense (67.6) and scoring margin (-3.5). Their 10.67 steals-per-game average is tied for third in the conference, but they have allowed opponents to connect on a league-worst 41 percent of their shots.
Rachel Scarpelli leads the team in scoring and ranks 12th in the conference with an average of 12.4 points per game, and her 35 three-pointers made this season are the second-most in the league. Concordia has lost seven of its last 10 contests, including a 73-62 loss to Warner Pacific last weekend.
“Early on in the season they were trying to find themselves, and I think during the conference season they've done a good job of finding their identity and now they've been playing really well lately,” Kennedy said of the Cavaliers. “They always play really tough, they're well-coached and have some really good guards.”
Southern Oregon and Concordia have met 61 times in a series that stretches back to the 1982-83 season. The Raiders own a 37-24 all-time record against the Cavaliers, including 3-2 in the last five games. Concordia defeated the Raiders 81-66 in the first meeting this season.

Kiara Moore (Goodyear, Ariz./Tolleson Union) is averaging 6.2 rebounds per game, followed by Krysten Copeland (Rohnert Park, Calif./Santa Rosa High School) (5.1), McDermott (4.2) and Cassandra Tiggett (Beaverton, Ore.)
